You'd think that after someone had read four hundred pages, the least he or she'd deserve was a happy ending. "Do you have it here? The Yearling?" "No. It was from the library. What do you want to make for dinner tonight? Maybe burgers, salsa, and guacamole? Tell Mom I'm going over to Sarah's house to study for the math test. What about you? What are you doing?"

School1 Monday night, Ruth had one of those nightmares that psychoanalysts love to make a big deal out of. She dreamt that she was... no, it wasn't she. She dreamt that she was someone else, and she was naked in a public place, with everyone staring and pointing and making noise. She had some books, and a large notebook, and she tried to cover her breasts and crotch, but she dropped them, and people laughed when she couldn't cover herself with her hands. It was a frightening dream. It was just a fragment, really. Ruth figured that everyone has a dream like that sometime.

They eventually die and a new Ma Vista is born. If the new Ma Vista is a boy he will start to have nightmares when he is 15. If it is a girl Ma Vista, the child will start having nightmares at the age of 16, some develop a bit later than that and their nightmares finishes in the middle of their 17th year.’
