Chloe paused her fumbling in the kitchen and kept reading. "Thanks." She mumbled, she turned a page as she sat down and picked up a strawberry, effectively popping it in her mouth. She had finished eating and was in the armchair again when she finished reading the book. She closed the book and sighed then got up and placed it back on the shelf and walked into the next room for a bottle of water. "How was it?" Kyle asked without looking up. He had paint on his left hand and was making handprints on several different pieces of paper and seemed very focused.

More honest. Her mother had fallen asleep hours ago, curled up on the couch downstairs after trying everything—tea, soup, prayer, tears. Chloe hadn’t said much.
