His first thought was an obvious one: their attackers were trying to burn the village. “The Outsiders!” the Chief called out over the noise of the mayhem. “They’re attacking our lands!” Delmar was speechless as he listened to his father’s words. It was only several months before that he remembered the young Morenno brothers arriving in the valley with their parents, the leaders of the Outsiders living among them in the Dark Zone. Delmar knew what happened between Morenno and his father, only that it ended with malice and threats. Whatever those threats were, he feared that the Morennos were finally acting on them.

They were victims, just as Jake was a victim. And Jake. My sweet, loyal Jake, who was somewhere out there in the darkness, alone, hunted, blamed for a crime so heinous it made my stomach churn. The injustice of it was a fire in my veins. These people, in their ignorance, had condemned him. They spoke his name in hushed, fearful tones, a convenient scapegoat for their fear. They had built a narrative of the dangerous outsider to explain the evil that had festered within their own walls.

They were acting in a very funny way, which was basically a pastime of crust punks and spirit ragged creatures, filthy and blood sacking creatures. Abednego didn’t feel that he had to fear them much. They were dangerous creatures that mainly attacked human beings. He was outside the cage. Yet, he still felt they could be outside here. Even if they were trapped in a cage, still there could were others hanging somewhere in this evil forest of Igodo. Abednego went through nearly every scenario in his head that could happen if he hopped back in the cage. "I am a small thing to them, if I dare provoke them they can swallow me alive," Abednego said to himself.

Let them think I was desperate, let them underestimate me. The clearing smelled of pine resin and roasting meat when I arrived. Fires burned in pits, rogues lounged on logs, bottles in hand, eyes tracking me like wolves scenting fresh kill. I walked straight through them, chin up, hips rolling, letting every one of them imagine what I looked like naked. Let them look, let them want, because I know wanting makes men stupid.

The member list in the channel was painfully clear, showing only four avatars: my father, my mother, my brother, and Bella. My brother, Enzo, replied a moment later, "Just the four of us. Don't call Aurora." "If she comes, she'll just find another excuse to bully Bella." I stared at the words, frozen. It dawned on me then. In this family, I had been the outsider all along. ... As if on cue, my mother's call came through. "Aurora, there's a sudden sit-down with the capos. We won't be back at the manor tonight."

While most of them have fled, there are still a few inside, trying desperately to help others who have been buried. My hand still sizzling, I shake it off and pull it back. About to reach in and pull out some more wires, I stop when I hear Dr. Cho screams. It wasn't her gloating but her being taken by surprise. Looking out, I see the four OutCasts charging toward me. "They sure took their time," I think as I reach in.

Delmar retorted. “But maybe we are afraid,” Matheus added. “I mean, look at us, we know next to nothing about Outsiders; what kind of people they are, how they think,” he looked Delmar directly in the eyes as he repeated Rowan’s previous words to him. “or what their weaknesses are.” Delmar narrowed his eyes at Matheus as he listened intently. “What are you saying?” “I’m saying that in all the time we’ve been stuck in this nightmare, we’ve never learned a thing about the Outsiders. Well, Delmar, now we have one.”

I watched them until they disappeared from view, my chest tight with fury. “Drive me to the outskirts,” I barked at the nearest guard, storming toward the waiting car. The outskirts of the pack were as miserable as ever. The once-thriving land was now a haven for outcasts and stragglers—omegas and refugees from the last war, scraping by in dilapidated homes. I wrinkled my nose as the car came to a stop in front of John’s cottage. The sight of it—the chipped paint, the sagging roof—made my stomach churn.

Children running around with only bottom hemp loincloths, the poor scenery really destroyed your imagination of a fantasy world. Although this is probably a normal scene of low caste people in Fantasma, but to me, it was like a slap of reality. Seeing all of this made me realign my expectations for this world. We drive through several hundred meters north and as we were nearing the town wall, the people start to scream and ran away in panic. It was quite a scene actually, I was actually wondering when it will happen, and honestly, I enjoyed looking at it, it was quite funny to see people running away from my van.

I say to Velkan, Andrew, and Frans, "the light is burning my mother's and my brothers' eyes. Then they take them off and I put the shirts on their faces until they can adjust their vision. Another line of guards is waiting for us outside, all with electric batons, so many of the outcasts transform into wolves and continue the battle, the weaker ones escaping taking advantage of the fact that the guards are busy. Velkan and Frans stay behind protecting mom and my siblings. I also see some guards deserting the front row, seeing the ferocity of the outcasts fighting for their freedom and their lives. I'm sure the guards are thinking which is worse, fear of Einar or fear of prisoners out for rev
