I struggled to remember, haunted by a word written in bold letters and underlined—“Transformation.” Lucy’s house is huge. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t exactly live in a shoebox, but she has five bathrooms—five. And there are only four people in her house! And her bedroom has a little alcove in it where she has a sofa, sort of like my sister’s room, except it is not supposed to be the master. She has a pool and a big back yard with lots of flowers in it and even a fountain. Seriously. A fountain.

We’d been working for over an hour already, in the zone and concentrating while we got the day’s work started. Lucy finished her final cut and put the scissors aside. She started collecting discard fabric scraps while she answered. “Okay, so I have been looking at apartments…” “Ooh! Yay, that’s so exciting!” “Right?” She gave me a big-eyed look. “I can’t wait to get out of my parents’ house, you have no idea.” “I have some idea.” She bobbed her head, agreeing. “Actually, that brings me to my question. I was thinking that Evan probably might be interested, soon, in getting out of Tina’s house, too.”

Walking further into the apartment, I immediately got an eerie feeling as Lucy was not responding. “Luce? Luce? Where are you babe?” I yell out. When I came to the living room, I knew that I was in huge trouble. Looking around I saw several candles lit all around the room and almost completely burnt out. On the coffee table were three meals elegantly placed with roses all around the room on the floor. Also on the floor were three of our bohemian floor pillows that we often used to sit on the floor to eat. I knew by the look of the room that Lucy had planned for the night to go a completely different route and Roman and I had let her down. I had let her down. Again.

she asked. "I'm fine Faye," I answered simply. "Most of the clothes didn't fit either I reckon," she stated with a laugh and I nodded as she ushered me inside. Her place was smaller than the penthouse but the studio apartment was still bigger than most. "What's up?" "Uh... I was just kinda home alone and I was wondering if you wanted to spend some time together but if you're busy-" "Oh no, Lucy. I literally have a lot of free time. Like the rest of my life since I don't do much anymore," Faye said and her words were sad in a way.

I didn't keep track. My phone buzzed. Mason. Then Sloane. I ignored both. Finally, I stopped. I was standing in front of a small apartment building. I didn't recognize it. I sat down on the steps and cried. My phone buzzed again. Sloane: Lucy. I'm worried. Please just tell me you're okay. I typed back: I'm okay. Sloane: Where are you? Lucy: I don't know. Sloane: I'm coming to find you.

Anger flashed in Logan's eyes; his hand flew into the air and descended with great force, but Lucy grabbed it mid-air before it landed. “Don't you dare!” She seethed. “The Lucy you treated like a fucking small girl is gone.” She flung his hand away. She smiled and turned around. “I am aware that you have no good friends. They all know how stupid you are. I am certain none of them will let you into their home… Not even Caramel. You will stay in this run-down apartment and starve.” She smiled. “Do you now regret spending all that money on your stupid vacation with Caramel?” Lucy asked and burst into laughter.

"Nobody cares if you feel like it's the right one. Adrian paid for the best, and that is the best. Just tell her yes so she can start the paperwork. I’m tired of standing around." Lucy looked at the shop owner, who was waiting with a pen and a clipboard. She looked at Zoe, who was already putting her heels back on, her mind clearly elsewhere. She looked back at the mirror and saw a girl who was losing the only man she ever truly loved. She didn't want to be here anymore. She didn't want to see the white silk or the pearls. She wanted the appointment to end so she could go home and hide in the dark. "I’ll take this one," Lucy said.

I’d happily let him bend me over right here on the tarmac, but that might earn us a few odd looks, especially from Annette who’s staring back at me wondering what’s taking us so long. We walk to another waiting car and slip into the back as the driver loads up our bags. Since Luc travels to France so often, he keeps an apartment in Paris, and that’s where we’ll be staying. I can’t wait to get a glimpse of his life here. I want to know everything about him.

She pulled back a little and gave him an innocent kiss on the lips as she said goodnight. Rachel matched her sister's moves exactly and Ben was beginning to wish he'd packed looser pants. As she left Megan slipped in and got a quick hug but didn't crush herself against him. He was grateful for that. "Lucy needs a suitcase as her new clothes should NOT be shoved into that backpack of hers." Megan said. "Agreed! We'll pick one up before we leave Paris," Ben replied. Megan headed for her room and Lucy walked up to Ben. "May I speak with you in your room?"

I didn’t remember much about my mother, but I did know that she wouldn’t live in a place like this, she had better tastes. “We’re here, sir,” the driver said, glancing at me through the rear view mirror. I nodded slowly. “Uhhh. This…okay.” This was it. I took a deep breath and stepped out. My phone beeped again and I whipped my cellphone out of my pocket. It was another text from Lucy. I didn’t bother opening it, I shoved it back in my pocket. Right now, I had something much more important to do. I studied the door: plain, pale green. It had a nameplate titled, ‘apartment 2A’.
