Her eyes, wide with surprise, revealed the flutter of curiosity that stirred within her. On hearing Pearl's name, panic gripped my soul, and I sprung from the bed with haste. A silent prayer ascended from my heart, a plea that it wasn't her after all. And as I dashed downstairs, my heart racing in anxious fear, I was thankful that Liam wasn't around. If Pearl had indeed graced my doorstep, Liam's presence would have ignited a storm of trouble. My feet carried me swiftly to the living room, where my worst fears were confirmed. Pearl was already sitting comfortably, her very presence an unwelcome enigma. How did she discover my home address?

Theo paused momentarily before raising his head, his deep eyes filled with disbelief. "The color of the pearl depends on the merfolk's mood." I touched my belly and said slowly, "I don't care. If you don't cry, I'll release your baby into the sea." His expression changed abruptly. Three minutes later, I stared in astonishment at the notorious villain who was feared outside. His eyes were red as pearls dropped with a pattering sound. The pale pink pearls rolled around on the plate, sounding particularly pleasant.

From the moss, three small pearls rose. No grand shimmer. No bells. Just silence. And power. She caught them in her palm. Each one looked like nothing. Pale. Dull. Slightly misshapen. But they pulsed with something old. Something true. Jo turned back toward them and walked to Mina first. She was happily married to Scott, but it was impossible not to feel intimidated by someone like Pearl. Her energy wasn’t something easy to ignore either, and Florence had to remind herself that Scott didn’t like her for a reason. She was a snake, so Florence should be alert. “Pearl?” she frowned, wondering why Pearl would be inside a baby’s store. “What are you doing here?” she gently asked, trying to hide the shock in her face. Pearl widened her white smile at her and shrugged. “I could ask you the same thing, but judging by this cart here, I’m sure I already know the answer. Are we having a little Lee heir in the future?”

Nick said trying his best to look tired even though he already was. ***************** After breakfast, Nick cleared the dishes and once he was done, he skipped wildly up the stairs, into his room. When he opened his room door, a gush of creepy chilly breeze washed over him which opened another door in his body for a stupid migraine, threatening to take over him. He slowly and quietly walked over to his safe, opened it and took out the pearl. He was curious to know about the whereabouts of the pearl and how it got here. He decided to try his luck by summoning the old man of earlier which he still hadn't seen.

FELYNDRA I’d been in endless darkness. I kept falling, but I never reached the bottom. Light was far from me. I could hear whispers and voices, but when I spoke, it was as if I never did. Like something was blocking my voice until a golden string fell into the pit. It spiralled down towards me, and for a long time, it couldn’t reach me. Just when I was about to give gravity authority over my body, I saw something glow in the dark. It was familiar. As I looked longer, I was reminded of what it was. A pearl. The string appeared again. This time around, it was more glowing than before and pulsated like it had life.

She is already miles away from me. She climbs the stairs, her footsteps light, almost skipping. The sound fades as she turns down her hallway. A distant door clicks shut. The house settles back into its profound, watchful silence. I unlock my fist. The pearl earring sits in my sweat-damp palm, gleaming dully in the sliver of moonlight that cuts through the library window. I am a ghost. A curator of relics. A keeper of a single, lost pearl from a pair that will never be whole for me again.

I'm nervous that I might just pawn it. "You have to accept this, Celeste." She chuckled modestly again. "If you don't take it, it will follow and follow you, until you yourself get fed up and take the pearl." I scratched my head, what else can I do, right? I walked closer to their place, I immediately smelled the sea. It was good and refreshing. I opened my palm closer to hers, it wasn't long before the pearl flew towards me, it lit up when it landed on my palm. I looked at it in amazement, I closed my palm and looked up at them.

I wouldn't fail. The water was shockingly cold when I went in, and it literally hijacked my breath from my lungs, making my muscles seize up. The Gerins watched me approach with those unsettling eyes, floating effortlessly in water that had me struggling just to stay upright. "The pearl," the taller one said, extending a webbed hand. I held it out, then pulled it back when she reached for it. "Key first." She smiled, revealing teeth like polished coral. "Clever. But no. Pearl first, then we guide you to the key. That is the bargain."

The pearls pulsed with gentle magic, their light reflecting off my fingers. My heart beat steady… calm, focused. One pearl… two… three… "Just a few more..." I whispered, trying not to disturb the stillness. The pouch at my side filled quickly, and I dared to believe that, maybe, just maybe, I would make it out of here without incident. But then… The water shifted. A pulse. A thrum. A distant roar. At first, I thought it was just the tide changing. But then the entire sea… shuddered.
