The Price Of Fate
I stepped closer, heart thundering, desperate for something solid, an answer, a name, anything.
“What is it?” I demanded, my voice stronger now. “What is that gold? What does it mean?”
My mother’s smile softened, and she looked at me like she was seeing me for the first time.
“You will need a bit more time,” she said gently. “To come into yourself fully.”
Time.
More time.
The words hit me like a slap.
My chest tightened so fast it hurt.
I felt my face heat, anger rising with a speed that shocked me.
“No,” I snapped. “No, don’t say that.”
