“Dante, I know we’ll do what Dario wants you to do. But if we go to my house, promise me that you won’t leave me there.” He slapped his fist against his chest. “You have my sworn promise.” Swallowing, I nodded. “I trust you.”

He shook his head, "I'm a mess." "Then let me do that. Let me protect you this time. If you try and it doesn't work out, then I'll protect you for the rest of my life. But first, you have to just try? Hmm? Promise me?" She asked and he sighed, his eyes glassy and a tear slipped off. Alexandra stared at him with teary eyes waiting for his reply. Every glance between us carries the weight of what’s about to happen, the line we’re about to cross. When we’re both dressed, Promise walks over to me. He’s back in his suit, hair still damp, looking every inch the serious financial analyst except for his eyes, dark and hungry and fixed on me. “Last chance,” he says quietly. “We walk out together, and there’s no taking this back.” I reach out and lace my fingers through his. “Good.” His breath catches, and then he’s smiling the first real smile I’ve seen from him in months.
