Together, they left the safe house, driving through the early morning fog toward the docks.
Emma stepped out immediately after she arrived, clutching the envelope she’d prepared as a decoy. The vast, empty warehouse loomed before her, shadows shifting under the dim lighting. She took a deep breath and walked inside.
Jeff was there, standing in the middle of the room, his face twisted with a mixture of anger and satisfaction. “You’ve made a smart choice, Emma,” he said, eyes glinting. “Now, hand it over.”
“Where are the kids?” she demanded, holding her ground. “Let me see them first.”
