The Sacred Ruins Novels & Stories

“To prevent the Hollow Sovereign from corrupting the sanctuary completely.” Selene crossed her arms tightly. “And now the seals are breaking.” The guardian’s gaze shifted toward her. “Because darkness rises again.” The silver flames along the ruined walls flickered weakly back to life now, illuminating more of the underground sanctuary. Lyra finally saw the true scale of the chamber. The ruins stretched endlessly beneath the mountain, ancient thrones carved directly into black stone while enormous murals covered the walls. Murals of war. Sovereigns standing together beneath silver-black skies. Kingdoms kneeling. Darkness consuming entire cities.

“His father. Yours. Mine. We just get handed the wreckage and told to make sense of it.” “We’re not just handed wreckage,” I said. “We’re handed each other too. That’s the part I keep coming back to lately. Whatever this costs us before it’s finished, I don’t think I would have survived getting this close to the truth without you standing in it with me.”

One ancient. One new. Royal blood intertwined with cursed blood. Perfect. “Soon,” I whisper to the dark water. The Veil stirs in response. I rise slowly from the circle, the hem of my dark robes whispering across stone. Around me, the ruins of Moonhallow breathe with old magic—cracked pillars, shattered statues of the Moon Goddess watching with blind marble eyes. They once believed this place sacred. They never understood what sacred places truly are. Power wells up where belief gathers.

The fate of their world awaited them within those ancient walls. The air hung heavy with the scent of dust and decay as they stepped through the crumbling archway, the city’s entrance yawning before them like a forgotten maw. Giant, moss-covered stones, intricately carved with symbols Lyra recognized from the cavern murals, formed the walls, their surfaces slick with age and the relentless creep of vegetation. The city wasn’t merely ruined; it was actively reclaiming itself, nature’s relentless tide eroding the remnants of a once-proud civilization.

Even he didn’t sound convinced. Another violent tremor ripped through the Academy ruins, nearly throwing everyone off balance as more of the lower foundation collapsed inward. Ancient black stone emerged beneath the modern structure, carved with massive circular glyphs pulsing faintly beneath layers of shadow corruption. The deeper ruins stretched far beyond the Academy itself. An entire buried city. Tarek stared downward in disbelief. “This goes underneath the entire mountain…” He was right. The scale of it felt impossible. The Academy suddenly seemed tiny compared to what had been hidden beneath it.

One human and one beast continued on the journey, heading deeper into the ancient ruin. “What's an ancient ruin? I asked you before, but you didn't answer me.” They did not encounter anything along the way, so the deer got bored and asked. “Ancient ruins are treasure troves left behind by some ancient mighty beings. Some of these mighty beings have passed on while some are still alive somewhere in this world. We can find treasures and precious medicines in ancient ruins, but they're full of dangers too.” After Philip's explanation, the deer had a general understanding of ancient ruins.

Yulia explained, “I’m sure everyone has heard of the Desolateness Ruins, right? It’s one of the Ten Dangerous Regions of the Boundless Realm. It’s rumored to be the place where Ancestral Gods died. “It’s speculated that many Ancestral Gods’ inheritances could be found there. “The fact that the ancient scroll was obtained from the Desolateness Ruins alone qualifies it as a valuable item that’s definitely worth the price.” Yulia explained to the crowd. James was intrigued by the Desolateness Ruins and decided to venture there after the auction.

Even the bambolina called First Lady created some silly charity called 'REBUILD DARK WOODS'. One fact that remained though, was that Dark Woods wasn’t destroyed. It was not. And for that, I was glad. But what made me weak in the knees was the idea of what the whole incident may do to Vernero. That castle was more than strong pillars of hard iron rods covered in cement; it was more than his home. It was his haven. And for it to be ambushed, I was afraid it was going to cut all the little restraints left in him. That’s what I feared the most. It was terrifying.

Nothing to fear or expect from them, I didn't have any visions of something bad happening nor did I have a bad feeling about it. Everyone here knows that the Supreme supernaturals normally went on a frenzy when finding their significant other on a full moon and the vamps wanted us to be separated for that exact reason. My body is being pulled out of my chair as I link my eyes with him and Castiel talks to me pulling me out of my reverie, "What the hell were you doing sittin' there, Reed? They're asking for you." "Who?" I have a great assumption about who he was talking about but I needed the confirmation to take action.

Elias muttered beside me. “Someone,” I corrected. “This land was sacred once.” We were a small company. Too small to start a war. Just enough to die in one. The obsidian temple loomed ahead, rebuilt over ancient stone, pulsing with unfinished magic. The gate tower was cracked, not yet sealed. “It’s not just a temple,” Elias said. “It’s a doorway.” “To what?” He met my gaze. “To ruin.” Two figures approached from across the stone bridge. My pulse quickened. “That’s Beacon. And Nyra.”
