“Look again! I was here with him here last night.” She turned her screen around so that I could see it and searched his name again. An alert popped up in front of it. Not Found. I glared at her. “Search my name. Natasha-” She quickly typed my name in and it immediately pulled up my file from the night before. I folded my arms across my chest. “How did you know who I was without my name?” “Uhhh.. I.. ummmm….” I leaned over her desk to grab her shirt. “Where the fuck did you guys put him?”

None of my locator spells have worked, they won’t let me get a single lock on her, just keep lighting up large areas to search. The last location I went to, it was a smaller search area, under the guise of a holiday was a complete waste of time. I used the last of my work leave and search fund, I’ll need to save again to refill it, which normally means I need to put the search on pause while I do. But I’m hoping I can get Willow and Alpha Ryker to help me this time. The only obstacle I can see to that is Conall.

I say and turn to the door with a small wave. She returns my wave and winks. “Sure, girl. See ya later.” As soon as I get home, I research the place where Sophie might be but don’t come up with any information. It’s so frustrating because I feel that I’m so close to finding her. The next morning, I go in search of someone who I know can help me. Devon Chase. Devon is our school’s tech genius. He can do just about anything with his trusty computer, which is as cool as it is scary. Don’t get me wrong, Devon has always been nice to me. He doesn’t even question me when I ask him to run a search.

A shutter travels up my spine as I try not to think about which one of my mates she may have been involved with before I came along. I stare at the search bar on the library computer, and I wonder if the searches are tracked. I scan my card with the reader and type ‘witches’ into the search engine. I watch as the little blue circle in the center of the screen circles around and around, before only one book shows up on the screen. It is a children’s fictional book call The Werewolf and the Witch, and it is checked out. I blow out a deep breath and tap my long nails on the desk beside me. Clearing the search, I try ‘supernatural beings.’ Several different titles pop up, but they are all listed

“Christine—” “How?” I whispered. My voice barely sounded like mine anymore. “How would somebody even know to search that?” Nathan stayed silent for one terrible second too long before he spoke carefully. “The request included one additional search tag.” I looked up slowly and Nathan hesitated before answering quietly, “Infant loss records.” Silence crashed through the room instantly, it was heavy and horrifying. My chest tightened so painfully it almost felt difficult to breathe properly. Because now this wasn’t just somebody searching my past.

“If you need this time to be with her, take it. I still have Jace and Chris. They can pick up the slack.” Hunter’s eyes sparked for a bit before he quickly hugged me. “Thank you, man. You don’t know how much Ashlee will appreciate this. I promise to calm her fears and be back in shape for a few days.” Hunter couldn’t get out of the door fast enough as Jace and Chris walked through. They looked at Hunter confused before turning their gaze towards me. I shook my head and began to fill them in on the search. I ordered them to get together in two groups: one to search the river as far as possible for anything connected to Zira and another group to go to the neighboring packs and ask around.
