Anything but the truth I already knew. Then my phone lit up. Not from him. From her. A public post on Instagram — Elena Duval, his long-lost love, smiling for the camera. Behind her, Giovanni was kneeling beside a small boy, helping him build a LEGO tower. Caption: “Future best dad.” My throat closed. Leo sat quietly on the couch, sorting the same kind of LEGO bricks. The life I thought I had suddenly vanished as I stared blankly at the wall before me. When I thought my secret was safe, someone else knew. What else does he know about me? I hadn’t realized she would be able to see the laptop screen. I sat up fast. My eyes landed on the laptop screen and I found it. The bracelet. The exact one I had given Claire the day she got that job at Café One. Why did Isabella have it? I slammed the laptop shut and turned to Serena. She was already asleep. I stood up quietly, pulled on my clothes, and walked out of the room without wasting time. Something was very wrong.
