The Selection Novels & Stories

Porter quickly silenced them and spoke again. “Now, with the Selection approaching,” she resumed, voice once again formal and clipped, “we must serve with unmatched enthusiasm. The ladies will begin arriving soon. Each will choose her personal maid from among you…” A hum of excitement spread through the group. I caught Elsa’s eyes light up with hope like many of the others. “Selection? What selection?” I whispered, nudging her lightly. “The Luna Selection,” Elsa whispered back, glancing at Mrs. Porter to ensure she wasn’t watching us. “It seems His Majesty is finally choosing a wife.”

Alpha Kael’s men are also standing menacingly, awaiting his command and the courtyard vibrates with growing tension. “Pick another. She has not even manifested.” Dad says, his voice strained. “It does not matter to me. I will help her manifest.” He replies confidently, finally breaking eye contact with me and turning back to Dad. My entire body is shaking and I need to get myself together because everyone is watching me. “She was not prepared for the Selection. You have twenty-one females to pick from, why are you so hell-bent on Catriona?!” The infernal male sits, seemingly uncaring of the growing tension as he folds his arms leisurely.

This was the moment that decided the fate of the Republic. I leaned closer to him, lowering my voice. “How does the selection begin?” Leonidas didn’t take his eyes off the council. “The mates of the candidates are taken to a separate room,” he said quietly. “No one knows what happens in there. When the mates return and stand beside their Alphas, the selection is complete.” I blinked. “That’s it?” He nodded. "As far as I know, yeah." I stared at him, stunned. “So the selection for Alpha King is based on the mate?”

I grumbled. “That’s because you probably care too much about being fair,” he said simply. “Don’t. This is a political selection, not a friendship audition.” He was surprisingly patient as he whispered short details about each woman while they stepped forward — names, pack affiliations, connections. I tried to keep my expression neutral, but half of them looked like they wanted to claw my eyes out. After the first few introductions, I leaned toward Sevrin. “They don’t seem very respectful.”

Chapter Twenty-Six Alpha Lir POV "Move it up," I say, the command cutting through the air like a blade. "Forty-eight hours. The Grand Selection happens Thursday." The High Council representative, a gray-haired wolf named Harken who served my father, blinks in genuine shock. His tablet hangs in the air, his grip tightening as the blue light flashes across his lenses. “Alpha Lir, this doesn’t make sense,” he says. “People aren’t even in position yet. You’re rushing this for no reason.”

He didn’t quite know where his strength had gone, he never felt this drained no matter how exhausting his matches were. He made himself a cup of tea with automatic motions and felt the eyes of everyone in the room. He took a sip and felt much better immediately. His mind had come out of its panicked state. “Is there any chance that the selection made by the government system could be redacted and a selection made again?” he enquired. “I think everyone was expecting Prince Sebastian’s marriage partner to be female.” Camilla’s jaw was tight when she replied.

Kelvin smirked, and declared, "A man's most precious asset is his time! Let the selection begin!" Immediately, a dozen young, glamorous women entered the room. Each was stunning and dressed to impress. Typically, in these "selection" parties, each heir would bring a few women for the group to choose from. With a mischievous grin, Kelvin rested his chin on his hand and said, "This time, the quality is top-notch. All of them are under twenty-three, fair-skinned, beautiful, and have long legs. I've even brought two of the best from my own company. They both just turned eighteen! As the host, according to tradition, I'll let you pick first!"

he announces, eyes darting back and forth between us. Great. It’s starting. The pitting thing. “After my meeting with the elders’ council, I met with the board of directors at headquarters and we decided that the selection will be in two phases. The verbal test. And combat. Combat will be in three levels.” “Three levels,” Theo spits, finally unleashing that temper that he’s known for. “Three levels of what?” “You heard me, Theo.” Spencer sighs, running his fingers through his hair. Clearly, he’s not in the mood for one of Theo’s tantrums. Clearly, Theo doesn’t care.

"Come on, don't get so tense, honey. This school is a fair school. They accept students according to their ability, based on test results. They held a gradual selection whose results were monitored by experts, not involving the school, to prevent cheating." "Oh, I hope Luke can pass the test." A tall woman wearing thick glasses walked into the hall. She clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. 8"Ladies and gentlemen, prospective students and also parents, the selection will start soon. My name is Maysie Kwon and will be the supervisor of the selection test today. I need to explain the rules first, so that everyone underst

"THEY... ARE... IN... THE... DARK... PLACES. WE... MUST... BRING... THEM... THE... LIGHT." "The Diaspora," Axiom whispered, tracing the fractal patterns on the hull of the nearest Seed-Walker. "The Great Return. We are going to find the lost colonies, Kael. The ones who didn't survive the transition." The Selection of the Voyagers The Earth didn't want drones to operate its ships; it wanted Witnesses. The selection process resembled an odd, empathetic lottery. The planet chose individuals with the strongest "Bond" to the Synthesis. Roric was selected to lead the "Fang-Guard" on the Vanguard-Root. Sarah was chosen to navigate the
