The Selection Novels & Stories

“That is never true.” Silence settles between us. Not uncomfortable, but charged. The kind that asks questions without demanding answers. “You surprised me tonight,” she says at last. I let out a breath. “I did not mean to.” “I know,” she replies. “That is usually how it happens.” She leans back, eyes lifting toward the ceiling. “People think selection is about desire. Or preference. Or even love, if they are feeling sentimental.” Her lips curve faintly. “It is not.”

"You'll give the Sterling bid the priority? Just say the word, and we can finally be the family we were meant to be. We can forget the past." Selene stared at the wall. She knew the selection process would be handled with total transparency, and she had no intention of letting the Sterlings corrupt it. But she didn't want to show her hand just yet. She wanted them to think they had a chance so they would reveal their true intentions. "The process of selection will be completely transparent," Selene said quietly. "Every bid will be reviewed based on its merit. But I will see what I can do."

“ Cover your cognizance, mama , pater . ” I glanced at my parents and cringed. “ For your information. I have n’t fucked someone differently. What you felt, ” I felt a vicious grin spreading across my face. “ What you felt was only the morning if you do n’t accept. I ’m not your mate; I rejected you. ” I growled. “ The Moon Goddess blessed me with a alternate mate. It’s further than what you ’ll get. ” I teased. “ No. That’s not. That’s not possible, ” he stammered. “ Clara is my mate, and I intend on marking her. If you know what’s good for you. You ’ll accept the rejection. ” Leon blazoned. “ I ’ll noway accept, ” He snarled. “ You ’ll come back to me, Clara. He

** {Anika’s POV} I was confused about the choice I had to make— muddled by the options presented before me. The West and South were no-go-areas as both Divisions were creeping with Ferals— so I’ve heard. Hence, I had to choose between the North and the East to go find Ciril, whereby if I chose wrongly, I may never find her in time before the Reigns came crashing down. It had been a confusing choice to make but I had to make one. And now, I was standing on the soil born from the choice I had made— and hopefully it was the right choice.

The third hesitated longer than the others before selecting one of the influential daughters, Eve's lackey, who had been glaring at me earlier. One by one, pairs formed. The tension slowly shifted into excitement, anticipation, relief for those who had been chosen. And quiet disappointment for those who had not. Nicole leaned close to my ear again. “I’m glad we’re done with that part,” she muttered. “You’re not even part of it anymore,” I whispered back. “Exactly.” When the final Alpha made his choice, the elder raised his staff. “Then the Selection is complete.” Applause rippled through the hall.

Teddy began, “we will host The Crimson Selection. It’s not a game, and it’s not for entertainment. It's a tradition, older than most of you, older than this compound.” I felt Eli tense beside me. Teddy’s voice deepened. “Only the most resilient, promising, and disciplined recruits will be chosen. Your performance in the coming days will determine if you're worthy of placement... or disposal.” He smiled, but there was no warmth in it. Only a predator’s amusement. “Dismissed,” he said simply, and just like that, they turned and left. As we filed back into the training formation, I glanced sideways at Eli. “What’s the Crimson Selection?” I asked quietly.

But whenever it did happen, there was always a way to select a new Beta. It was called the Selection. Boring name I know but her, it wasn’t like it was a fucking regular occurrence or something and so he Elders did not see the need to get their creative juices flowing to think of a better name or something. Ok, to tell the truth those old people would never think of anything out of the box even if it killed them. They were old and miserable…. That should say enough. The entire pack was present for the Selection. How it worked was simple; I was tasked to hand pick three people that I thought would be suitable to take on the Beta

The least i can do was is see their face for the very last time. With that thought in mind, I was quickly up and going as i slipped into the hall way and further into the huge balcony overseeing the rest of the house where the selection was being conducted just like always. From the look of things, This year selection was no different from the ones I have witnessed before as young men and women stood in line waiting for their fate to be decided by some Prince who doesn’t even know their names or what’s like to be snatched from the people you love and love you equally.

Fear was clear on their faces, no one wanted to end badly. Alpha Elmore’s gaze hardened slightly. “Since no one is willing,” he continued, “we will proceed with selection.” A tray was brought forward by a servant, on it were folded sheets of parchment. “Each eligible female will pick one,” an elder announced. “Only one bears the Lycan seal.” A ripple of unease moved through the crowd. One by one, the girls stepped forward, their palms sweaty as they approached the tray. Raine watched them from the side, how each and every one of them prayed to the moon goddess just like she did four years ago.

Cara shook her head and we took a seat on a bench close to the park where there were teens playing different sports. "Humans several times have said that natural selection works, right?" She asked me and I nodded. "Well, look at it as the Goddess being the one in charge of the natural selection. She looks for each person and wolf and sees their likes, dislikes, tastes, everything, and she takes the time to find the right partner for them, the one who will give them balance and who will be their fair match. She never took away your freedom to choose, she hasn't forced you to take someone you don't like. She has picked 'the' one for you. Haven't you noticed how you and he almost never argue? Y
