In her hand was a dagger, its blade dripping red as she faced an opponent cloaked in shadows. "The darkness cannot be killed," the Queen said, her voice carrying over the battlefield. “ The shadows?” He nodded. “ Creatures born from darkness—soulless, without mercy. They came with their king, the Shadow Demon Lord, and swept through the southern borders like a storm. Our forces barely had time to prepare. That night, I fought beside the king’s guard.” His jaw tightened, eyes distant now. “ The queen had gone into labor while the battle raged. The king had refused to leave her side. The healers tried to move her deeper into the Crystal Palace, but… it was already too late.”

The hooded figures began to chant, their voices rising in a dissonant, haunting harmony: “Born of the shadow, the flowers shall rise. Through the vessel’s pain, the old world dies.” The Vhalir watched the carnage with a look of serene boredom. He watched as the blood reached the center of the sigil, where a single, black flower made of obsidian and shadow began to sprout from the stone. He stood up, his golden hair catching the dim light of the torches. He looked toward the ceiling, as if his gaze could pierce through the miles of earth and stone to find a small apartment where a boy was waking up from a nightmare.

She wraps the chain around their intertwined hands, and I watch as the chain begins to glow red like an ember. There is no pain on their faces this time, only wide grins.

I swallowed, unable to put the doom that will before us all, in a full sentence. King stopped pacing. “We could lose her too. We can’t let that happen.” A silent, suffocating panic pressed against my chest. “We won’t,” I vowed. “Even if I have to tear every kingdom. I’ll find the shadow bride and end her before she brings doom to us all.” King hummed approvingly. “Good. Ravenna is ours. The Shadow bride seems to be going after her to get back at us.” I thought about what he said. Could that be the reason?
