CHAPTER 38: The silence was the first thing Keira noticed. A deep, heavy quiet that seemed to swallow all the familiar night sounds, the distant hiss of a late-night bus on the wet street, the hum of the refrigerator, the soft rhythm of Marcus's breathing beside her. She lay perfectly still in the dark, eyes wide open, listening to the absence. It was the silence of a world holding its breath.

Chapter 19: A Silence Too Loud to Bear Sophie had never known silence could be this loud. She sat curled up on the couch, staring blankly at the untouched cup of tea on the coffee table in front of her. The steam had long since disappeared, leaving it cold and uninviting.
