Blood spattered across my face as I drove my knife into the hybrid's throat. Not a killing blow—these fuckers were resilient—but enough to buy me seconds. I twisted the silver blade, widening the wound, before kicking it back into the trees. "Six o'clock," Silas called. I spun, dropping to one knee as another hybrid lunged overhead. It landed awkwardly, and I slashed across its hamstrings before it could recover. The silver blade cut through enhanced muscle and tendon, sending it crashing to the forest floor.

A crack in her armor, faint but promising. I moved closer, the blade resting just beneath her chin. "Tell me," I whispered, my tone deceptively soft. "Does your silence mean you're brave...or simply stupid?" She didn't answer, of course. She never did. Her lips pressed together in a tight line, her breathing shallow but steady. Her silence wasn't bravery. It was a shield, one I was determined to shatter. I pressed the knife lightly against her skin, enough to draw a thin line of blood. Her body flinched, an intake of breath betraying her reaction. The sound was intoxicating—a small victory in this battle of wills.

She continued to step back as she flicked a questioning eye to Blade for just a moment, not able to form any sort of words to ask what was going on. By keeping Xana’s focus on him Blade allowed Silas to move around her to step up behind her so that as she takes one more step backward she steps into his chest. Silas wraps his arms around her chest and waist as he leans down and whispers next to her ear. “Just relax baby, and this will be over before you know it.” Without giving her a chance to object Blade steps in front of her, sliding his hand on her cheek and whispering. “I have wanted to do this… Forever!…”

"She buried the 'Keys' in the heat. She thought the life of the planet would protect them. But the planet is tired, Kael." ​She looked at Kael, and for a second, he saw a flicker of something human in those dark pits—a shadow of grief. ​"You carry the Hush-Blade," she said. "Do you know why it’s silent? It’s because it’s a parasite. It eats the frequency so it can stay sharp. Give it to me." ​"Go to hell," Kael gritted out, his fingers straining to reach the hilt.

Bleeding. SILENCE

I walked past a gauntlet that crackled with electricity. Then, I stopped. In the back of the room, almost hidden behind a display of ceremonial daggers, was a simple, vertical case. Inside was a sword. It wasn't gold. It wasn't diamond. It was made of a pale, translucent metal that looked like frozen smoke. The hilt was wrapped in gray leather, worn smooth by use. It didn't hum. It didn't glow. It just sat there, looking dangerously quiet. "Ah," Kaelen said, coming up beside me. "The Ghostblade. Or, as the Old Poets called it, Silentium."

Cause we even sleep in one small bed back in the village with his shirtless all around but I found no sparks, maybe because I’m just trying to ignore him and convinced myself that It was just a part of me idolizing him as my best friend but the more it gets longer the heavier it gets for me to hold this feelings of mine towards this guy with the same name as mine. The echo of the forest’s rage lingered — trees clawing at me, the earth splitting, the wind shrieking. Within the blink of an eye, silence draped itself over everything — A heavy, dead silence. Its wifht pressed down even much more, draining life our of me. But with every passing moment that life slips out of me, it feeds this dead silence like a zombie feeds on brains. And so, this silent wasn't dead anymore. It now had a pulse. I might still be a subject to delusion because it felt like this silence had a voice too. I heard a faint hum rolled through the emptiness until suddenly a flicker of light exploded through the air.

He pulled out a long, heavy silver blade. He walked slowly up to the sobbing woman who had practically raised me. I thrashed wildly under Dante's crushing weight. Hot, terrified tears streamed down my face. I cried and begged with every single muscle in my body, but absolutely no sound came out of my throat as my father raised the blade and began to butcher her right in front of me. My eyes snapped open. I gasped violently, my chest heaving as I pulled in a massive, desperate breath of air. Thick, cold sweat coated my forehead and the back of my neck. The dark silk canopy of the master bedroom blurred entirely above me.
