When the sky turned orange, I arrived home. People who hadn't eaten dinner were lining up in front of the restaurant. Classical, rarely-heard music filled the restaurant and my room this evening. I cleaned up and changed my clothes. Mother didn't leave anything to eat, so I didn't eat dinner. On the bed, my body lies on my stomach. My fingers propped up my phone while others scrolled through the screen. Posters of Nevan's Dad's driving lessons were scattered on the internet. He even guarantees that you'll be reimbursed if you don't pass the lessons.

"We'll face it together, as we always have." Cliffhanger: As the clan members resumed their stories, a figure emerged from the shadows at the edge of the clearing. Dressed in a dark cloak, the stranger's presence sent a ripple of tension through the group. Alex and Kai stood, ready to confront this new potential threat. Time's up. No sooner had the words left my mouth than a stir echoed down the hallway. The crowd parted like the Red Sea, faces etched with a mix of terror and reverence. The deliberate click of high heels grew louder, each step resonating like a heartbeat through the throng. A team of bodyguards in black swiftly took charge, pushing back the onlookers with their phones at the ready. A statuesque silhouette framed the doorway, her black business attire cut with precision, her hair swept up in an elegant twist. Her features echoed Jennifer's, but where Jennifer held a flicker of warmth, this woman radiated a commanding chill that seemed to pierce the very air.

The stranger approached slowly, gaze heavy. “Yes you didn’t. But you did something far more dangerous.” Dax looked up sharply. “What does that mean?” The stranger stared at the shattered remains quietly. “You proved that you are stronger than they thought. You proved that an anchor can kill a Warden.” A cold wave swept through Dax. “And?” “And now,” the stranger said quietly, “they will not send scouts.” The crimson line in the sky reappeared. Wider than it was initially. Longer. Stretching across the horizon like a wound that refused to heal.

The stranger looked shaken. Genuinely shaken. "My mother never said she was sick." Stella laughed softly. The sound carried no amusement. "Why would she?" No one answered. The word hit the air like a gunshot, echoing with a violent, jarring finality.

The questions multiplied like fractures in glass, each one threatening to shatter what little sense of self she'd managed to piece together. Dawn was breaking over the garden when Luna finally heard footsteps in the hallway. Heavy, uneven footsteps that didn't belong to Mrs. Patel or any of the usual staff. She pressed her ear to the door and caught the sound of someone fumbling with keys, followed by a muffled curse in Grayson's voice.

And one—one felt like a promise. We reached a narrow pass between two ridges as night began to fall. The stranger slowed, scanning the rocks. “This is as far as I go tonight.” Seren frowned. “Why?” “Because this place listens,” he said simply. “And if I stay, it’ll hear me.” He turned to me then, and there was something almost human in his eyes for the first time. “You’ll see more tonight. Don’t trust what feels perfect.” And then he was gone, vanishing into the shadows like he’d never been there at all.
