Greta and Gabby made their way to Page Turner’s Bookstore just down the street from the Blue Moon Inn. Once inside the warmth of the large shop, Greta was surprised to see a bright modern shop, which included not only a metaphysical section, but my children’s section, too. With soft upbeat music playing in the background, it didn’t take long to find the shopkeeper chatting away to a rather wild looking dog by a fireplace.

It’s like the world knows I’m stepping into something I can’t turn back from. The address Ruth gave me was vague, just a name and a description: “spiritualist bookstore.” I’m starting to feel the weight of the whole town on my shoulders as I drive deeper into the hollow. A few houses are scattered along the road, their roofs caved in, yards overrun with wild grass. A sign for the bookstore creaks in the wind, half-buried under ivy. It’s almost too perfect.

When i looked at the books i borrowed from the library, i thought, 'i have to return these books anyways so let's ask the shops on the way. I locked my apartment while holding the books in my other hand and came out of the building. When I stepped out, I looked either side of kine to make sure Valentine wasn't following me. Selby said hello but didn't stop to chat. After crossing New Haven, Selby unlocked the wood-framed glass door of his tiny bookstore in Downtown Melbourne. No matter how hard he tried, the place still held that antique store smell left over from the previous owner. The morning downtown traffic came awake as thrift stores, antique shops, bakeries, and small over-priced restaurants came alive. He loved this part of town. The older people walked the shops during the day, and at night, the young crowd wandered from one pub to another until they couldn't wander anymore.

Charlatans! The back room was large. He searched, until he found the book, he searched for. The book was massive, covered in a thick layer of dust. The cover was locked with a handle that was shaped like a figure with elongated arms, he forced the lock. Nothing happened, he wasn't losing hope. With one movement of his hand, he removed the layer of dust.

"Green, aren't ya?" I purse my lips. "Let's keep going," I tell Alec. We stalk down the street, heads down against the growing wind. The cold is becoming bitter. We only go a few blocks before I start to wonder if we should have stayed at the bus station. Most of it is open, but at least there are a few walls to block the wind. Maybe we can head to a homeless shelter for the night. Rest and start again tomorrow. I start to mention it to Alec, but then something across the street catches my eye. It's a tiny bookshop, built into what looks like an old alley.

But part of me wants to treat it as well as Greyson has. The book is thin and easy to conceal. I can examine it later, but for now, I just hurry back to the street.
