“You aren’t unable to move because of sleep paralysis anymore.” Jaladri’s stomach twisted. “That was my strike. You won’t be able to move again until sunrise. So if you'd like to perform the dawn prayer, you'll have to do it spiritually. Your body is temporarily unavailable.” If Jaladri had been capable of moving, his eyes would have bulged out of his skull. Until sunrise? Like this? With his chest feeling as though a horse had kicked through it? “Control your breathing and the pain will lessen. But moving? Forget it. Not until morning. And if you suddenly need to urinate...”

We talked for hours then Sam drove us all to the shore where we watched our first sunrise, my life had changed from loneliness to to a life filled with love and happiness. Maybe, just maybe, Ryan would text again. And somehow, she found that she hoped he would. --- Ryan felt unusually happy that morning. Normally, he had to snooze his alarm multiple times before dragging himself out of bed, but today was different. He had woken up before the alarm even had a chance to ring. The faint hum of distant laughter drifted away, replaced by the soft chirping of morning birds. And then, slowly, the first blush of dawn began to paint the horizon. Adrian watched in silence, his elbows resting on his knees, eyes lost in the rising sun. “You know,” he said quietly, “my dad used to say sunrise is proof that life forgives us, every single day.” I turned to look at him, my voice barely above a whisper. “Do you believe that?”

Nevertheless, irksome intuition was filling my blood, thrusting my insides hard. At half-past seven we were on the road. The sun was rising gradually, spreading contagiously across the horizon and shooing away the darkness.
