Mom appeared behind me before I even noticed. She frowned, staring intently at the words. My heart raced. I wanted to explain, but Mom just smiled and pushed a bowl of stew toward me. The smell hit me, and my stomach churned. Her smile froze. She grabbed me and led me to the full-length mirror. The reflection staring back at me was just a thin shadow of myself. "You weigh less than 50 pounds now. Anyone looking at you would think I'm abusing you," she said with concern. "I make this stew for you every day to help you get stronger."

“Understood.” In his arms, Theo shifted slightly. A faint sound slipped from his lips. “Mo… Mommy…” Theron went still. The word came again, weak and broken. “Mommy…” He knew who the boy meant. Not the woman who gave birth to him. Her. Scarlett. As for Theo’s real mother— The woman who had thrown him away like he was nothing— Theron’s gaze turned cold. He would find her. And when he did— She wouldn’t get away with it.

“Are you accusing me of being a thief?” She smiled. “Oh, I’m not accusing you. I know that you’re a thief. I guess it runs in the family. I jolted towards her and grabbed her collar, holding it tight, causing her breath to get caught in her throat. “You can talk shit about me all you want but never—NEVER, bring my mother into this. If anyone’s a fucking thief in this household, then it’s you! You stole my mother’s position!”

I cried the entire night, but when I came home, she slapped me and told me I better stop acting like a child because the world didn’t care. It became routine. That made the god of chaos send his shadows to follow my mother to find out everything he wanted to know about her. When he had the information he wanted, he began to frequent the places my mother was assigned to.
