"Because if the seven realities go to war, the cosmic cycle will skip ahead. Past The Convergence. Straight to the final phase. The End of All Things. Not just our universe ending. All universes. Forever."

That idea somehow felt worse. The End wasn't motivated by hatred. Or revenge. Or conquest. It genuinely believed it was helping. The memory shifted again. Showing stars dying. Worlds collapsing. Civilizations fading naturally. Time claiming everything. Orion gestured toward the vision. "The End witnessed the first death." The stars dimmed. "It witnessed the second." Another dimming. "The thousandth." The vision grew darker. "The millionth." Silence. The forgotten Sovereign looked toward them. "Eventually it decided death was unacceptable."

I am not entirely sure if these Academy myths truly worked or were simply myths at all. Eventually the Barbarian’s numbers lessened, I could already see some staggering away and running back through the breach in the wall. We all cheered as the last one ran off into the breach and began to breathe easily; some even began ransacking a food crate that was sitting nearby. But like every jolt of happiness in this world, this one was short lived.

Ava looked up through her tears, her heart pounding against her ribs as fear consumed her. The End finally delivered its answer, and it shocked everyone. TO REST. Absolute silence fell over the cosmos. The End wasn't hungry. It wasn't angry. It wasn't seeking conquest, destruction, or vengeance. It was just tired. The oldest thing in existence, the final punctuation mark of reality, simply wanted peace. The realization shook Ava to her core, and in that moment, she understood something even more terrifying. The End wasn't destroying civilizations because it hated them. The End appeared because something—someone—kept preventing reality from ending naturally.

I turned. What happened? He pointed upward. The End has awakened. I stared at the cracks. The Beginning said the universe would continue. Kael shook his head. That doesn't mean it will survive. Cassian stepped forward. Explain. Kael looked at all of us. The Beginning and the End are opposites. The Beginning creates possibilities. The End removes them. Then why was the End asleep? Because there was nothing for it to end. I looked at my daughter. Until she was created.

Time was ticking dull and tedious. It was when her eyes were shut closed and completely devoured by the obscure and uninvited eclipse eating up the light of her vision. She caught a glimpse of the two nuns for the last time before she dozed off to unconsciousness. Her heart, pounding a loud and banging beat - a rather dire and portentous beat, enveloping her distorted and disturbed psyche to finally lay a single touch of her life before everything else was fragmented.
