The wind whistled loudly, making them cough violently. Before the dust cleared, they shifted and charged at Tyler, and in their hand was a syringe, filled with a clear liquid. Tyler tried to push himself up, to get away, but his body refused to cooperate. He was paralyzed. The stranger injected him with the substance, and Tyler felt a cold numbness spreading through his veins. His eyes slowly closed, and he lost consciousness.

“It ensures you don't destabilize and call the Abyss again.” He held the syringe out. “Take it. Or scream for the next four hours.” I stared at the vial. It was a Tribunal drug. A means of control. “What is it?” “A specialized suppressant. It calms the aggressive hormones that flood the bond. It ensures you remain passive.” It was poison. But the pain was a physical wall. I couldn't think. I couldn't survive without thinking. I snatched the vial from his hand. “You do it.”

he said. “Alpha —” “Clear it first. Make sure it’s empty. Then burn it to the ground. A place that condones kidnapping doesn’t get to keep standing.” He ended the call and got back in the car. Behind them, ten minutes later, the sky above the Vortex turned orange. Zander watched it in the side mirror. His face didn’t change. “Good,” was all he said.

Final. Kaela looked away, throat tight. No child should die like that. No child should die at all. Lucien closed the girl’s eyes with careful fingers, then pressed two fingers to his temple, establishing the mind-link. Kaela watched his face shift from grief to cold, steely resolve. When the connection ended he exhaled hard and wiped blood from his hands onto his pants. “I need to get you back first. Ronan’s orders. I should never have brought you this close.”

I slurred, barely able to speak. “It’s a special cocktail that I’ve designed myself. A mixture of tranquilizers, anti-psychotics, and mood stabilizers,” he said, now standing over me. “I have a few questions for you, and this will help ensure your cooperation. I’ve given you just enough to keep you immobile, but still able to talk to me” As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I could now see that this was the same pock-marked creep from the video feed, that worked over Warthog.

The heavy rhythm of tactical boots was a death knell. "Jimmie, look!" Stella’s voice was sharp with terror. She pointed to Franco’s flank. Sticking out of his side was a high-grade sedative syringe, the plunger empty. A few drops of a glowing, toxic-looking purple liquid clung to the needle. This wasn't a standard tranquilliser; it was something designed specifically for a Zeta’s metabolism. "Go," Franco slurred, his head lolling back as the substance surged through his veins. His grip on my hand went slack. "Take him... Stella... out of here..."

Myra insisted on supervising every inch. I was mortified, my face burning the entire time, even as Juliet occasionally smirked at my embarrassment. After the bath came the massage with oils that smelled expensive being worked into my skin. I got a haircut to trim my overgrown ends and finally… the pills. "What are these?" I asked, eyeing the small white tablets. "Relaxants," the doctor said, and the smile on his face wasn’t even relaxing. "It’s to help ease any tension. You should take them now, they’ll kick in before nightfall."

We had come so far, faced countless obstacles, and now the moment of truth had arrived. With a deep breath, I uncorked the vial and swallowed the elixir, feeling its warmth spreading through my veins. The room seemed to pulsate with energy, and a surge of power surged within me, as if awakening a slumbering beast. The medicine man's eyes widened in astonishment, his gaze shifting between me and Gracie. "There is something unique about your bond," he murmured, his voice filled with a mixture of curiosity and awe. "A connection that surpasses the ordinary."

Revenge. " We'll meet again soon." She mumbled as she reached the door before walking out of it. Nicholas felt odd as he watched her retreating figure. Did she just use him to fufill her objectives? . . . The doctors finally arrived and Dexter got his treatment. Maya stayed throughout, watching as they fussed over him, not daring to leave his side. Dexter had managed to stay awake despite the excruciating pain. At one point, he'd begun to spit out blood. The second treatment was administered and an antidote was given to him, he'd gone unconscious.

The enlarged orb presented this before him. "I'll make you all pay!" he yelled. "Today, I shall eradicate darkness!" he promised. In the midst of the chaos, Tyler's eyes met one of the dimming lanterns, and just kike that, a flicker of recognition and sorrow passing between them overtook him. With a heavy yell, he fell into a trance, his eyes becoming bright blue. Tyler was back in a house with a couple and two kids playing around. It looked like a happy family. "Honey," the wife started. "Is the true Alpha truly being chosen today?"
