The door opened. Elena Voss stood there. She looked at them calmly. “You found the photograph.” Daniella stepped forward. “Did you know my uncle?” Elena nodded. “Yes.” “Did you know he killed my father?” “Yes.” Christian’s eyes hardened. “And you still worked with him?” Elena looked at Daniella. “I worked against him.” Daniella froze. “What?” Elena closed the door behind her. “Your uncle believed he was controlling you.” She paused. “He was wrong.”

Hand it over.” she said. Elena held the necklace like her life depended on it. “No,” she said. Carla's mouth twisted revealing her ugly scar. “Look at you,” she sneered. “You think you are tough now, princess? This place will grind you down to dust.”

Elena’s POV The moment Adrian said “ his uncle”, something cold slid down my spine. He was right about not trusting his uncle…. except I and his Uncle were working together to destroy him. I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly very aware of how exposed we were standing out here….smoke still hanging in the air, firefighters moving around like ants as reporters circled the gates like vultures. “Your uncle?” I repeated. Adrian nodded once, his face contorted. But I could see it in his eyes….rage trying to stay on a leash.

“He underestimated one thing.” “What?” “I’m not fighting alone.” His eyes softened, then hardened again with resolve. “You never will.” By midmorning, the penthouse was a command center. Dane had security feeds playing silently across a wall of screens. Juno sat cross-legged on the couch, laptop balanced on her knees, fingers flying. Phones buzzed, messages layered over messages. “Elena disappeared three hours after the gala,” Juno announced. “Private jet. Filed destination Rome, but I’m ninety percent sure that’s a decoy.”

She turned to her new army—the dockworkers, the hackers, the shadows of the Mediterranean. "The Pact is dead," Elena announced, her voice carrying across the water. “I’m not part of this.” Adrian spoke then. Low. Measured. “You already made her part of it.” Silence. Then— “Yes,” the voice said. “And that can’t be undone.” Elena’s chest tightened. “Then undo it.” “I can’t.” “Or you won’t?” A pause. Then— “Both.” Her hands clenched. Frustration rising again. “Then what do you want from me?” she demanded. The answer came slower this time. More deliberate. “I want to see what you do,” the voice said.

“That will trigger retaliation.” Elena’s expression hardened. “Then we endure it.” --- That night, as the storm swallowed the skyline, Elena stood alone on the balcony.
