The voice was shrill, and raspy at the same time. The forbidden stepped out from the treeline on my left. Its clothes were tattered, its human form had a misshapen head, and he leaned to the right dragging his ankle with him. He most resembled a zombie out of a horror movie. His skin seemed to sag from his bones. “What then, what am I?” I asked, turning to face him. “Abomination.” It yelled, raising its arm and pointing at me. “Well come then, let us rid this world of the abomination,” I say, smiling.

A sliver of my true scent—frost and ozone, sharp and angry—escaped into the air between us. Matteo took an involuntary step back, his eyes widening slightly. He’d felt it. The power in it. The threat. “I am not a sickness,” I said, my voice dangerously quiet. “I am an Enigma. And my presence here is sanctioned by the Global Alliance and your own government. If you have a problem with that, take it up with them. Now, if you’ll excuse me, the break is over.” I walked past him, back into the meeting room. My heart was pounding, but my hands were steady. Matteo’s words echoed in my head. He’s falling apart.

I strained my ears, desperate to catch even the faintest hint of her voice amidst the cacophony of destruction. Then, like a siren’s call cutting through the madness, I heard it—a familiar voice, faint but unmistakable, crying out my name. “Enzo!” My heart leapt into my throat as I whirled around, my gaze darting through the smoke-shrouded haze in search of the source of the familiar voice. “Nina!” I shouted, my voice cracking with a combination of desperation and the soot I had inhaled. “I’m here! Where are you?”

He was replying and agreeing with the first person(whom I assumed as a member of the royal family) in a very respectful way and with brief answers. I was about to peek from behind the wall when Ben talked via mind-link, “No Milady. Don’t even try to peek. If you can even try to hold your breath.” I asked with an extremely confused expression, via mind link, “What do you mean? Do you know them?” “Yes I know one of them,” Ben replied. His voice was low and commanding as he spoke. "Ava, Adrian," he said, his voice laced with a mixture of authority and menace.
