ZAIRE’S POV Sebastian was stepping out of the bathroom when I walked into the room, drying his hair with a towel. He was shirtless, wearing only a pair of sweatpants that hung dangerously low on his hips. I shoved my hands into my pockets and quickly looked away, trying not to stare. I leaned against the doorframe, but my heart was beating way too fast for me to feel relaxed. Sebastian didn’t look at me. Not even once. He grabbed a pillow and a blanket from the bed and walked straight past me, and headed for the couch like I wasn’t even there. The smell of his body wash lingered in the air, making it even harder to focus.

Caleb watched on with pride as his pack members worked together in perfect harmony, their movements coordinated and efficient. When the last vampire had fallen, they continued on their journey, the adrenaline still pumping through their veins. But their troubles were far from over. As they made their way through a desolate wasteland, they were suddenly attacked by a horde of zombies, their flesh rotting and their eyes devoid of life. The creatures swarmed around them, their moans filling the air. Jessica shuddered in revulsion, her hands shaking as she raised her weapon. "What are these things? They're like something out of a nightmare."

Then I move to Teddy and gesture at Ava: "Kill her too." Ava's eyes were wide, fear and shock written across her face. Her lips opened in a silent cry, but Gamma Teddy beat her to it. Before she could even get out a word, he killed her too, finishing her off quickly. Her eyes went glassy, her body collapsing next to James's dead body. The beta and gamma of the Night Walker Pack, seeing their alpha fall, turned deathly pale. Horror written across their faces, they retreated, tripping on James's and Ava's corpses behind them.

"Good. Lets just get back to the warehouse. Get behind the walls." The four-kilometer drive felt like it took hours. Every time a stray zombie stumbled out from a side alley my foot jerked on the pedal. The heavy steel plow on the front of the truck pushed them aside like dry branches. The city was still burning around me, black columns of smoke twisting into the gray sky but all I could think about was the cold terrifying look in Justin’s eyes. He was right about one thing—the world was changing fast. If a Tier 2 Awakened was already walking around on day one, my current defenses weren't going to be enough to keep me alive.

She didn't say anything else after that. Joyce curled up in my arms as Mom and I grabbed our guns and headed to the second floor to shoot the unwelcome visitors down. Meanwhile, Emmett guarded the door on the first floor. The gate fell open with a loud crash, and chaotic footsteps stormed into the yard. It didn't take long for someone to step on the nails scattered all over the place. They howled in pain. The noise attracted the roaming zombies, who flooded in and surrounded the group. Several seconds later, all that was left was the sound of the zombies groaning and blood on the ground.
