She was already curled up in bed, with her blanket tucked below her chin. I took off my jacket and shoes and joined her in bed. “Are you in pain?” “No.” “Melly said you’re determined.” I wrapped my arms around her, making sure I didn’t put my weight on her. “And?” “I wanna take you somewhere. Lex has a nice house in Spain. Or we can go to Edinburgh.”

There was no chance of those brutal crashing waves that pounded the rocky shoreline only a mile away, the ones that crushed the sea-front cliff as Leon made sure that the water below them could follow his every command. David watched in awe as the waves crashed against the base of the crumbling cliffs.
