As I squinted closer at the cat, I noticed one of its hind legs seemed to not work because it sat back on its haunches, the dead leg sticking out at an awkward angle. Its pelt was spotted white and grey, but patches of the fur were falling out, leaving ugly bald strips behind. It had crooked whiskers that twitched along with its nose that was moving rapidly to identify who was around.
