the king demanded as he entered, and all the servants bowed respectfully. With a snap of his fingers, the king dismissed them, leaving only the three of them in the chamber. “I’m sorry, my king, but she is not who she seems. She’s a witch hiding behind an innocent face. Why can’t you see that?” Afunwa insisted, pointing at the Queen Mother. “May the gods strike your lips if you ever call my beloved wife a witch again! Leave her chamber this instant!” the king yelled. Muttering inaudibly to herself, Afunwa exited the room.

******************* Princess Kaylan was reading a book in her room when her maid showed up and informed her the King had summoned her. All the blood in her veins dried up immediately. "Do you know why?" She asked nervously, her book still in her hand. "I'm sorry I don't, my Princess. Princess Cara wa actually the one who'd informed me about it on my way to the laundry" the maid answered with a polite bow and Cara stood up immediately. Oh! She's always been so scared of the King and never wanted to do anything that'd make her stay alone in the room with him. The King was a nice man, yes. The King grabbed her hair, yanking her up. “Open your eyes.” he demanded. Maybe he’d release her if he found her reactions to be boring, she thought. Hope rose in her as she slowly opened her eyes as commanded, but it soon died when she came face to face with his groin. “Put it in your mouth.” he said as he pried Keanna’s lips apart. If she refused, she’d die. Immediately she understood, women who couldn’t satisfy the King in the bedroom died. The King’s eyes beamed with desire as she pushed it into the gaps of her opened lips. I give Marcus his gift after the cake. It is a book. Old. The cover worn smooth at the corners. Inside, the history of King Alaric's reign — edited carefully, the dangerous parts removed, the good parts kept. The stories of what the Lycan kingdom looked like when someone led it with both strength and care. Festivals. Alliances. The way ordinary wolves lived under a king who remembered he was one of them. Marcus holds it with both hands. Looks at the cover. Looks at me. "Is this a real king?" he asks.

Until today, he noticed Jeffrey had forgotten to lock the door after their evening session and made up his mind to make use of the opportunity. Zayn's eyes scanned through the books of the forbidden section and eventually found the one he wanted. "The King who never was" He smiled as he picked the book from the shelf and had his seat on the ground with the lamp illuminating the environment. He opened the book to discover the pages were blank and gasped in shock. Zayn spent several minutes flipping from page to page until he noticed only the centre page had ink written up. After my parents died in an accident, our family company was seized by a rival corporation. Now, I was nothing more than a pitiful hanger-on, living at someone else's mercy. The laughter, music, and dancing in the hall fell into dead silence at the king's anger.

I folded my arms, trying to steady myself, heart hammering as his eyes flicked toward me just as the guard stepped back. “Ma’am, let’s go. The boss has arrived,” the guard said, calm but firm. My knees trembled as I lifted my gaze. “Who… who is he? Is he…?” I whispered, dread coiling tight in my chest, when suddenly his height felt strangely familiar. “Yes, ma’am. Mr. Evan Grant, our king,” the guard replied. WHAT! This is the evil I’ve been defying?
