"I yearn to understand the full extent of our pack's past and how it relates to the present." The woman's gaze turned even more somber, her voice carrying a weight of sadness and caution. "Long ago, there was a wicked king who sought to amass greater power and control. His hunger for dominance led him down a dark path, one that intertwined him with strange, demonic forces."

The werewolf king killed anyone who dared to utter such claims. "Did you hear something, Luna?" Both Luna Mira and I leaned closer, eager for information. I never liked that king; no one did. He was crude and often brought women to his castle as gifts for his friends and allies. He was a lustful man who was neither a good nor a fair leader. "Well, today is—"

A small evil smile appeared over his lips as an interesting plan built up in his mind. "First imprison Will and kill him. We don't need such irresponsible drunkards in our kingdom. And second, take the army and go to village and." He raised his evil grey eyes. " Kill them all." I give Marcus his gift after the cake. It is a book. Old. The cover worn smooth at the corners. Inside, the history of King Alaric's reign — edited carefully, the dangerous parts removed, the good parts kept. The stories of what the Lycan kingdom looked like when someone led it with both strength and care. Festivals. Alliances. The way ordinary wolves lived under a king who remembered he was one of them. Marcus holds it with both hands. Looks at the cover. Looks at me. "Is this a real king?" he asks.

"That was Vladimir, the Vampire King. He is very deceptive and manipulative. Do well to avoid him. He takes advantage of his good looks and charms to lure women into doing whatever he asks and when that doesn't succeed, he uses his powers which believe me, no one has yet to subdue."
