The werewolf came, its feet hitting the ground mercilessly as its hands joined in its movement. It broke out from the woods, tearing off the leaves of the trees with less effort, and growling at the sight of the man. “You can't take anyone from my family.!” Mark grinned as he shifted under the bright moonlight. His bones cracked, and his skin stretched beyond its limits, tearing to become as tough as that of a wolf. He growled at the phantom, just as the phantom growled at him. Like two behemoths, they collided, and the green grasses on the ground fell victim to their battle.

I muttered as I put the car into more speed and then abruptly stepped on the brakes. The car suddenly came to a halt, flinging the wolf from the hood to the forest floor. Immediately it fell, I put the car again into motion and slammed into the body of the wolf. The car bumped a little as I heard that satisfying thump and bump as the car went over the body of the wolf. I knew this one wouldn't be bothering me anymore. I suddenly became aware of the presence of other wolves, rogue werewolves. They had been alerted by the cry of their fallen comrade. They chased my car on either side of the road with some of them even chasing from behind.

His silhouette against the moonlight looked less like a man and more like something out of Verona’s darkest folktales. He walked toward the man reloading. The hunter screamed and swung his gun like a bat — it hit Fenrak’s jaw. The wolf didn’t even flinch. He grabbed the man by his chest and threw him straight through the warehouse window. The sound of glass and bone shattering echoed like thunder. Outside, the fleeing man reached his car — an old black Cadillac, keys fumbling in trembling hands. He started the engine. Tires screeched. Then a shadow fell over the window.

I continue to drive down the road, heading towards this pack. "They know we're here," Freddy says to me, looking out the window over into the forest. I look over to see wolves running along the edge of the forest keeping up with the car. I come to a stop seeing two wolves standing in the middle of the road blocking the way. Seconds later the car is surrounded by at least thirty wolves. They stand there growling, waiting for us to get out. I watch as one of the wolves place his huge paw on the hood of my car while looking at me through the windshield growling. He drags his paw across the hood, letting his sharp claws dig into the metal, leaving claw marks on the hood.

The little black cat curled up in her lap as usual. "Tonight we find out the real skinny on this, kitty," she murmured as she opened the heavy book to the page she had marked. "I don't even know what I'm looking for any more but I hope I find it soon." She opened the book to the place she'd marked, two pages of hand-drawn sketches. One of the drawings especially caught her eye. The face of the wolf looked almost human and she had the bizarre feeling the animal was staring out at her from the page.

I was exploding with fear and terror as Ralph crouched over me. My whole body trembled, and then I heard a growl of a wolf; It wasn’t a mistake because I heard it loud and clear. Before I knew it, Ralph got off me, and with the speed of light, he and his driver pounced on the car. With barely any effort, I saw Ralph crash the tinted window, and the car sped off before he could launch another attack.

Then, the smell changes. A sharp, metallic tang cuts through the air. Pack borders. The steering wheel vibrates in my hands as the car hits a deep pothole, the suspension groaning as we bounce over the rough earth. A massive wooden archway appears through the mist ahead, the words Blue Claw carved deep into the rotting timber. Two large wolves emerge from the thick brush on the left, their fur matted with burrs and mud. They do not shift. They just stand on the grass verge, their yellow eyes tracking the car as we slow down to a crawl.

But this… this wasn’t that. This wasn’t a wolf of Vandwood. This wasn’t even a wolf of the world I knew. This was something else. Something that looked like it had crawled out of a story people whispered around fires at night, the kind of story they ended with don’t ever go near the barrier. A bulky man. Skin plated with grey, armoured scales like he’d been forged, not born. Red eyes that didn’t flicker with wolf emotion, they burned like coals. Teeth too sharp even in human form. He banged the bonnet once and the car dented like tin. He hit it again and the whole front tipped, like the ground had tilted under us.

All their guns were pointed at me at once, and the big wolf with them clenched it's teeth at me, like it wouldn't wait to tear me apart because I'm dangerous, more dangerous than him. "Oh wow, a wolf" but it wasn't too much to take in, I thought I had dealt with something like it before. It was a big brown wolf and wouldn't stop cringing at me. "I know who sent you, take me in and leave my friend alone, he has nothing to do with this…" Their supposed leader signaled at them to take me. Two men jacked me and a hilux car parked right there. I cowered as the brown wolf shifted into a full blooded, large muscular man, and they brought him a short to put on.

While waiting for Crassus to change, Lucian bit one of them. Carol yelled out as Ravena was still gripping her throat, attempting to suck breath into her lungs. She sank to the floor, her eyes unfocused and a horrible cut on her throat oozing with blood. Ravena approached Carol, her palm on her throat, halting the blood, after skirting around the four wolves fighting each other. "Oh my goodness, Carol. You'll be... fine." Some words of comfort. Carol's death would be the simplest option now that she knew they were lupus garous. Ravena was anxious for her to live.
