The machine hisses and gurgles, normal sounds that used to send my pulse racing, and I find myself smiling at how ordinary everything feels. My laptop sits on the kitchen table where I left it last night, and I open it while I wait for the coffee to brew. The blank document stares back at me, cursor blinking in the white space, and for the first time, I don’t want to write about trauma or survival or all the ways a person can break. I had left the divorce clause book incomplete for now. I want to write about hope. My fingers hover over the keyboard, then start moving, words flowing faster than I can think them through. A story about a woman who learns to trust again, about building something

Different depth. She writes: Fifty one years old. Thirty-one years of November mornings with the notebook. The second book sent to the publisher. Cristina at the coast. Petra at the table. The twins at five. Clara at seventeen, co-authoring my arguments. Ethan still paying attention with the quality that makes paying attention possible. This writing journey had been a roller coaster of emotions and I still find it hard to grasp that this story has really ended. I started the story as a joke, literally to test my brain I should say. Something not serious as I was merely experimenting, trying to put all elements that I’m bad at in a story and I truly didn’t expect anyone to read this amateurish gibberish.
