Theodore The next day the first thing that Theo did was to ring his private investigator the name of Natalie Greene. Within 3 hours, he had the file on his desk. He turned the cover and perused it carefully. A smile made its way on his face, as he learnt things about her. Her interests were quite interesting. But his smile dropped when he learnt who she actually was. Her father was Eric Greene, the owner of the wedding planning company “We Do”, which is so cliché. And the worst part was that William, Theo’s trainer, was her brother. She was studying event management and wanted to join her father’s company, who wasn’t ready for it.

At this point, I didn't even know why I was having this conversation at all. Madeline leaned back, blowing out a long sigh. “You know, for someone who looks like he could kill a man with just a glance, he really is the worst when it comes to feelings. Or talking. Or existing around people without emotionally maiming them. What you're doing is not going to help you when it comes to him. You're just giving him the space that he wants to have.” A reluctant laugh escaped me, dry, sharp. “That’s generous. If that space can actually give me the peace of my mind, then I would rather I give him galaxies between the two of us.”

Theodore said seriously. "Oh? And where are they?" Peter asked. "Give me a moment," Theodore said, walking toward the front door. A few moments later, standing before Peter and Alden, were a young woman—who looked even younger than Peter—and a young man about Alden’s age. "Peter, Alden…" Theodore said, looking at them intently. "This is Fiona Sawyer, my wife and the mother of my son, Adam Bennett Sawyer." He placed a hand on the young man's shoulder.

“I’ll pay you. Whatever you want. Name your price.” “I don’t need your money, Adrian. I have plenty of my own.” “Then what do you need?” The question hung in the air between us. Theodore studied me for a long moment. Then he leaned forward slightly and rested his elbows on his desk. “What I need,” he said slowly, “is for my daughter to marry well.” My blood went cold. “Excuse me?” “Mabel.” He said her name like it should mean something to me. Like I should understand what he was offering. “She’s been quite taken with you for some time now. Follows you and your brothers around whenever she gets the chance. I’m sure you’ve noticed.”

Theodore did not move. That frightened Violet more than if he had shouted. Theodore Cain was a man built from movement contained. Rage contained. Grief contained. Desire contained so tightly it looked like cruelty from a distance. But that name froze him. It took the whole man out of the room and left only the wound. Mrs. Blythe whispered, “Mr. Cain.” Theodore blinked once. Then he was back. “Stay here,” he said. Violet laughed once, sharp and disbelieving. “Have you met me?”

“Goodbye, Theon.” His expression shifted instantly, the defiance draining from his face, replaced by emptiness. His body grew rigid, his eyes glassy, completely under her trance. Theon stood motionless, waiting for her next command like a puppet waiting for its strings to be pulled. She stepped closer, her fingers brushing over my bloodied knuckles gently. Her touch was cold, colder than death itself, yet so oddly comforting.

Harper’s POV I’m not sure about staying here. The thought of sleeping in someone else’s house, under their rules, with my world unraveling piece by piece, it tightens something in my chest. But I’m not ready to fight about it, either. I don’t have the energy. Not tonight. Nathan leans forward, his voice steady but pointed. “Who got the payment?” I open my mouth to answer, but my attention falters when I notice Theo staring out the window like something deeply fascinating is happening outside. His gaze is sharp, intense, like he’s watching an invisible play unfold just beyond the glass.

The man collapsed to his knees. "What is your name?" Tia asked him gently. There was something sensual about her voice, and I smiled at her. "Theodore, Theodore Welsh," He managed. His voice sounded raspy and dry. "Please get him water," Tia pleaded with someone close by and bottled water was brought for Theodore. "Don't rush it," she warned him and watched the guy sip gradually.
