THE LUNA WHO RUINED HER MATE.
She tried to shift her weight, to step back.
Vines, not from the surrounding bushes, but from the very edge of the fissure thick, woody, and moving with a purpose that was not natural lashed out. They wrapped around her ankles, her knees, with the speed of striking snakes. She yelled, firing her pistol into the air as she was pulled off balance. The vines dragged her, not down into the crack, but sideways, into the dense thicket of wild rose. Thorns as long as fingers caught her clothes, her skin. Her shouts turned to screams as the living thicket seemed to fold in around her, swallowing her whole. In moments, there was only a thrashing, cursing mound of vegetation, and then, silence.
