Things We Don T Talk About Novels & Stories

We did not talk about it. That was the decision we had both apparently made sometime between last night's silence and this morning, without discussing it, without agreeing to it, just two people arriving at the same unspoken arrangement the way people do when they are not ready to have the conversation that's coming and they know it and they move around each other very carefully until they are.

I don't need to tell him what he already knows. "Not a gossiper, no?" he joked. Sometimes it's all about comfortability. If someone had that vibe within, and we'll click, I could talk about everything without worrying. Everyone possesses a nature to gossip regarding present fads. However, there is a more significant topic to talk about other than yesterday's event. "Actually, I am. Unfortunately, not in the mood to be one right now," I nonchalantly replied.

“I think I have that covered, I mean. With Mark.” “Well it’s a good thing we’re not talking about that,” she says shrewdly, as if my unspoken commentary about her was shouted anyway. I just want us to talk about something that affects more people than we realize.” I paused. “Trauma.” The room immediately became silent. “Some of you may have gone through things you don’t talk about. Maybe something happened when you were younger. Maybe someone hurt you, you lost someone you loved. Maybe you were bullied, neglected, abused, or made to feel like you weren’t good enough.” I slowly looked around the room, trying to observe them too.

“Grow up, the two of you; talking about sex is healthy. There is too much stigma around it already.” “Why do you have to do this with me? Why not the others?” Leo was now glaring at Dev. Dev looked back at him, “I talked about it with both of them when they were in school. You are the only one who ran away from the conversation.” “Because it's uncomfortable to talk about it with you guys. Besides, I wasn't doing anything back then.” Dev gave him a look. “You do realize deleting tabs doesn't delete the history.” Neel snorted.

I explain, "We don't meet each other's... companions or whatever. We don't even talk to each other about them unless it's over." "What?" He asks, looking confused, "I thought you told each other everything." "We do," I roll my eyes. I don't think it's that weird, "We just don't talk about who we're dating unless we break up with them." "Why?" He asks and his absolute confusion makes me stop and think deeper about it.

“ But why did you say it might be a lack of sex?” “ I was embarrassed to tell you why I was embarrassed, the subject of sex embarrassed me." She stared at him smiling, finding it amusing that he actually believed that she blushed because of lack of sex. “ I don't understand why you would be embarrassed to talk to me about it.” “ I don't talk to you about everything. Not everything, like intimate and personal things, it's not necessary to tell you and I feel embarrassed.” “ Why do I feel embarrassed?” “ Because not everybody talks openly about certain things with everybody. Not everyone is as open as you are about certain things. Most feel embarrassed, and not just women, in general.”

"Avery—" "I spoke to you on the phone just a few hours ago, Mom," I continued, leaning slightly into Lael's side and letting my hand rest openly over his knee on top of the desk. "I told you we were close. The reason these blogs are throwing around words like 'fake' and 'calculated' is because someone couldn't handle the fact that Lael and I actually fell for each other despite everything." I flicked a short, razor-sharp glance over the laptop screen toward the dark corner of the room where Leon was standing.

We had not talked about this. That was the thing sitting with me through the rest of the morning and into the afternoon. We had talked about everything else. About the wedding and the MBA and the future in the specific practical terms of two people building something together. About Singapore and Henderson and October and the vineyard and the trust and Vivienne and all of it. We had skipped this conversation. Not deliberately. Just in the specific way that things got skipped when you were so busy surviving everything else that the ordinary conversations that normal couples had before the wedding did not find their moment.

No matter how good the intentions, hiding things from each other would onl y create gaps between us. “Then we need to talk,” I whispered, pulling back.
