Only these were images of the scrolls and certain symbols stood out to her. She was vaguely aware of her team trying to reach her, but it was like the book stole their speed. They were moving slower than in slow motion. The book was giving her the answers she needed and when it was done, she fell to the pavement and started to scream. Her head was pounding worse than a migraine.

Speed never lied. At three hundred miles an hour, the world peeled away everything unnecessary. There was no room for pretense or sweet-talking, no time for betrayal or half-truths. Excuses had no traction at these speeds; the machine demanded everything, and if you hesitated, it would chew you up and spit you out as just another cautionary tale whispered in the garages of the elite.

Hot flames spread onto the dead leaves and feathers on the ground. It then traveled toward the wooden dominoes.
