Chapter 69 The days went by, and the meetings became more frequent. So did the kisses. Less and less shy, more and more full of feeling. Until one afternoon, Zacky saw his son in the stable. Thomas was tending to the horse he’d received when he was ten years old. He brushed its coat carefully, speaking softly to the animal, the way he always did when he needed to organize his thoughts. Zacky stood there for a few seconds watching him, arms crossed, leaning against the doorframe.

It felt more real than any promise made in a church. Stephen said to Hannah "He is a Hannah." He nodded towards Thomas. Thomas was now seven years old and very tall.
