Then Daniel reached in. His fingers were steady. This time, Leah knew exactly what that steadiness cost. He lifted the paper from beneath the lining and placed it on the clean cloth. He did not unwind the thread at once. He looked at it, and the room looked with him. Mrs. Turner pressed one hand to her mouth. The thread was the same color as the spool Diana had kept in the tray.
