THE HOSTAGE'S DILEMMA
My mind is a blank slate, devoid of thought, devoid of feeling.
At the airport, I can't even register what’s going on. The millions of voices, the constant announcements, the smell of disinfectant. I navigate through the crowds, my movements automatic, robot-like. My boarding pass feels flimsy in my hand. The flight itself is unremarkable. I stare out the window, watching the clouds drift by, formless and fleeting, like my own emotions.
