Adea There wasn’t a single breeze in the air, no reprieve from the angry sun as it blared down on us. I could feel beads of sweat forming in places I didn’t want to acknowledge. Of course, Gabe sat unaffected beside me while I was slowly going crazy. My chest still dipped and expanded with each breath. I itched to get up and move, I knew it would only make me sweat more but at least I’d be busy doing something instead of cooking beneath the sun.

Adara yelled. It felt like I was coming out of a dream, that hazy feeling when you wake up but you’re still technically asleep. I opened my eyes as I felt the wind on my face. It felt good and I wondered where the wind was coming from. The wind was calling to me, singing my name and I wanted to follow it. I looked down and I stood on the windowsill, seemingly ready to leap and Adara pulled me backwards into the room. “What are you doing?” she asked me as we stood in front of the open window.

It is the middle of summer, and it is expected to be hot even in the evenings. But the temperature that night was lower than usual. The wind is blowing steadily and refreshingly. When the wind blew directly into Eliza’s face, it was as if it had blown away the stifled annoyance in her heart.

DREAM OFF ** Startled by the howling wind that breaches the open doors, I jolt awake. The room is bathed in an eerie glow from the moonlit night. I dashed forward and leaned into the wind. Arms spread wide, the waves crashing nearby. My hair braid blowing in the wind. Raw and wild the wind screamed past me. I loved it. It was like getting a pure infusion of life when the wind was like this. My eyes closed as I soaked it all in. It was perfect. I knew that he was here and that was all that mattered. I sighed happily.

I replied. The air is crisp and invigorating, carrying with it the scent of dew-kissed meadows and the subtle fragrance of blossoming flowers. A gentle breeze whispers through the foliage, stirring the leaves in a delicate dance and carrying the promise of new beginnings on its whispering breath. Cade expertly navigated the busy roads, deftly maneuvering around slower vehicles and changing lanes with ease. I sat in the van, the wind whipping my hair around my face. The window was open, and I could feel the cool breeze on my skin, invigorating and freeing. I felt alive at that moment as if all my worries and fears were left behind. I was weightless, unburdened by the worries of the world. I closed my eyes and breathed in deeply, letting the fresh air fill my lungs. Four days later Ada closed her eyes, letting the sweet air travel into every part of her body. Dry season had parted ways and now they were kicking off for the first time into raining season. Her stomach was lifting and something she didn’t think she would ever feel in her life time walked into every part of her mind. Peace.

My eyes began to tear up as I experienced the sensation of the wind completely rearranging my hair. Painfully, I whispered something to the effect of, "I kept on worrying what would happen to my life if both of you were alive." I've been standing here for far too long, and when I said "directly" in the last sentence, I didn't mean that the sun has been hitting my skin for the past several minutes. The weather is beautiful, and the wind is blowing strongly enough. It is not unbearably hot, but rather warm enough for people to venture outside.
