Scarlett’s POV Tiger padded over to me, nuzzling me affectionately, and I reached out, stroking his fur gently. It was unexpectedly soft, and his familiar pinewood scent was even stronger in this form, mingling with the crisp, earthy air of the forest. Tiger’s size was impressive; he radiated strength, yet his movements were careful, tender as he shielded me from the cold, his massive body creating a warm cocoon around me. I leaned into him, feeling a comfort and safety I hadn’t expected.

I ask the others. "She's in the cage next to you. Norea took her somewhere and then brought her back a little while ago. She left again, though. I'm Gloria, and I'm a tiger," a young woman in the cage beside Brandon says. The cages are angled, so I can't see into the one next to me. I try to mindlink Dayan, but nothing happens. "Where are you from?" I ask them. "All over. Norea can travel anywhere she wants by snapping her fingers. We're all unmated, and most are rogues," Brandon answers.

I was 23 and Toby was 24 in this story. I’d arrived at the summer camp in Canada with excitement in my veins. Ditching my shit job for a summer of fun is just what I needed.
