I bring out the bottle of liquid medicine I’d seen him take on the first day here, and another yellow pill container. The label on the first reads ‘Venlaflaxin’ and the one on the second reads ‘Xyrem’. I raise both to him, unsure of which particular one he needs right now. “Which—“

I raise an eyebrow, dropping my raised hands. “Why-“ his smile is contagious, and my facial muscles stretch into a foolish grin. “Why are you laughing?”
