A bitter smile touched his lips. "Seems like you’ve been stood up again," Shane quipped, his voice cold in the quiet apartment. "What anniversary is this? The fourth? God, you’re pathetic, Zoya. Sitting here like a fool, celebrating all by yourself." My blood boiled. Shane had always been cynical, especially when I bragged about how perfect Alex was. "Watch your mouth, Shane! Get out!" I snapped, my voice trembling with rage. "I don’t want Alex getting the wrong idea if he walks in and finds you here alone with me."

I took a bite of my cookie, falling on my bed. “What do you mean ‘cool’? You’re going; you have to. It’s a perfect night to come out as a couple.” He explained, and I could tell by his tone that he was slowly losing his patience. Good. “Cool as in I’m not going to dress up just to go talk about the weather and which spoon is perfect for eating a salad, for all I care.” Shane let out a tired sigh, and I watched him make a call asking for makeup artists, amongst others.
