He set the untouched drink aside and reached for his coat. Fire had rules. Fire did not look back. Fire did not involve itself in accidents or strangers. Life flared from the shard on the table. I let out a gasp as a hundred visions smashed into me. Cities are on fire. Falling wolves. Friends are bleeding. And in the middle of it all, me—my flames devouring everything. My knees gave way. The head of the cloaked architect cocked. "The fire was always your destiny. But tell me, child… will it be your weapon…..or mine?”

“Romance does not exist in your world. It never has. You’re a monster… just like me.” I say nothing. “The only other person who understood that was your late wife, Sabrina,” he continues. “And she realized it too late.” The word stays in my head. The room fades without warning. Heat replaces air. Flames. The next shot rings out. Control snapped as always sending heat coursing through my blood. The pain always feels so real. Flames leap across my vision. The ground below me turning to ash. The tree turned to char as the flames dance across the branches. Swallowing it whole. The swing falls and crumbles. Seeing the house begin to burn, the flowers long gone, the fire blazes around me, and my world goes black. Pain is the strongest reminder I was there. I open my eyes and look at my surroundings. Ashe covers the metal in black smudges. Yeah, I’m home. Letting my breathing return to normal I reach out and unlock the handle and push on the iron door.

Her bodyguards swarmed me, a flurry of fists and boots coming at me from all sides. I fought back with all my might, but against those muscular men, I was overwhelmed and forced to the ground. I curled up, doing my best to shield myself. Nicole let out a piercing scream and threw herself over me, her small body trying to fend off the blows meant for me. I called out to her weakly, unable to push her away. Desperate, I managed to roll over, pulling Nicole underneath me to protect her. I barely cracked my eyes open, squinting at Simon a short distance away.

Feeling Tommy beside me, I sighed, looking into the frantic flames as they destroyed everything, including the stone walls and foundations. "It's not just fire," Archer announced, coming to the front of my mind as if suddenly realising what was going on; I felt him taking some control sensing the danger; seeing Tommy turn to face me, I acknowledged Rafe at the front of his eyes, obviously sensing the threat just like Archer had. “It's like a rampant beast!” Rafe hissed, nodding towards the flames, his eyes alight with distress for the loss the town had suffered, he watched the unstoppable force of the fire sucking in a breath. "What is it?"

But for how long? Titan takes over, his strong wolf body slamming and biting and fighting the vampires. His strong jaws break bones and kill vampires. But no matter how many I kill, more appear. The dragons direct their fire toward Dan and Victor, and I jump in front of it. The scent of burned fur and skin reaches Titan before he can register the pain in his left side. Bitting back his yelp, Titan escapes another set of flames. Victor and Dan also get away from the danger. Pack members cover us as we get out of reach of the deadly dragon fire.
