Roots rip from the earth, attaching themselves to the tires. “What the fuck?” The driver hits the gas, the engine revving and vibrating through the large van. “Why aren’t the tires spinning?” I can hear one of the windows rolling down, but don’t dare move a muscle as my vines work tirelessly to stop the van. “You dosed her too light. The forest is fighting back again.” “What the hell is she?” Dane curses under his breath, as the driver whips the steering wheel back and forth. I cry out as the frantic movements throw me into the side of the van. Something heavy slams against the back window, over and over again, splintering the glass.

Magnus and Alex joined her, their voices ringing out in unison, calling for aid. For a moment, the forest responded with nothing but the whisper of the wind and the creak of ancient branches.
