Traps Book Novels & Stories

"Mom, I love you! Come back soon, okay? We'll go to the amusement park and surprise Dad." ... The car scraped against the guardrail with a loud bang. My heart pounded, but I did not stop to check the damage. My speed did not decrease. My phone rang again, and it was Charles. I answered, my voice trembling, "Charles, where are you? Where's Sally?" "She's in the car!" he snapped. "Why are you tracking me? What's the big deal?" "Charles, listen to me. You need to get her out now!" I pleaded.

It completely overturned the logic of a normal financial case. While I waited, I could roughly guess the root of the system bug. Caleb's system rule was that after a single target ate or drank something from him, it would transfer that single person's funds. But he had never imagined that I would pour that special bottle of water into the alumni event's dedicated soup pot. Hundreds of school leaders, business figures, teachers, and students had all drunk or eaten from that pot. The system couldn't process this many people consuming it at once, so it triggered an indiscriminate full-transfer backlash.

My pussy suddenly clenched hard at the way he said my name—low, rough, almost reverent. Since Dad died, I’d fallen headfirst into the darkest taboo p**n I could find. And now the fantasy was standing right in front of me, hard and conflicted and trying so damn hard to be the good guy. I could imagine how nice it would be to have him trapped in here with me and Mom walks in. Marriage over. Now, that's a good plan!

His eyes locked onto mine, the violent silver fire instantly softening into that deep, possessive warmth. But as the chaos swirled around us, I didn’t notice the shadows shifting near the side exits. I didn’t see Elara slip a small, leather-bound journal into the hands of a cloaked northern elite warrior. And I didn’t see the targets moving toward the adjacent room where Leo had just been led by his nanny. The fire had been lit. And the trap was about to spring.

“The desperate mate, trying to flee to her Alpha? It’s the oldest story in the book.” He took another step. I took a step back, my back to the open, vulnerable clearing. “I have every patrol schedule, every sentry rotation memorized. I designed the three-minute gap you saw. It’s called a trap.” He smiled, a flash of white in the gathering dark. “I wanted to see if you’d take the bait. I have to admit, I’m a little proud you did. It shows spirit.” Rage, hot and blinding, burned through my fear. “You monster.”

I put my phone in my pocket and looked at the library around me, and thought about Carver walking unhurried through corridors he’d spent twelve years learning to own. Then I thought about what you do when someone has built a trap so carefully that the only way out, runs directly through the middle of it. You stop trying to go around. You walk through.

“I slipped while I was gathering these.” “You're out hunting for moonflake mushrooms this early?” Malcolm cut in, his voice low and suspicious as he cupped his chin. “And Theo... the protected forest is riddled with booby traps. Did you not know that?” “B-booby traps? You mean those deer traps? I saw some people setting them up earlier,” Theo said, looking genuinely confused. My eyes widened. “You saw who was setting them?” “Yes, Luna. By the Moon Goddess, I saw them. You know I'd never lie to you about something like this,” Theo insisted, his expression earnest.

He hadn’t touched anything then. Casting out my magic, I pulled books from their shelves and flipped through pages by the dozen, scanning every chart and sigil for a mere mention of a seven-pointed star. A few times I found references to one, but their proposed meanings were so convoluted I couldn’t make any sense of them. The books circling me like angry wasps froze when I came across a passage. I felt myself grin. “I might not know how to get rid of a demon, but I do know how to trap one.”

Mack said as he looked at the baby in her arms and the one in his. “And you all are too important for this to continue,” Henni said as she looked at him. The silence in the room was deafening to them both. She wouldn’t back down, though. It was too important to her this time. She was done, and the gloves had come off. Mack couldn’t be the one to end this. She had to be. It was the only way they were going to be free from this trap. She rubbed the baby bump that was moving from side to side. “Even she knows that it has to be you.” Mack finally said with a slight smile. “Fine, but I will be close by.”

"Where did you go, Laurel?" She lifted her chin, refusing to look away first. "Don't you already know? So why bother asking?" "Why are you digging through the past?" His grip didn't loosen. "Do you understand how dangerous it is for you to be at the pack library without security?" "I went to the neutral territory library, Noah. How exactly was I in danger there? Who would even dare touch me?" "You don't understand." His voice dropped, harder now. "There are enemies around you that you can't see yet. I need you to stop investigating whatever this is and focus on the company instead. And until I say otherwise, you are not going back to the pack archive without me."
