THE REVENGE OF THE DEAD LUNA
The Fire God gestured toward the necklace still in the King’s hand.
“Did it burn you?”
I stiffened.
“Yes,” I said.
“Good,” he replied. “Touch it again.”
I stared at him. “No.”
He tilted his head.
“You refuse a god?”
“I refuse to put myself in pain when I don’t understand why,” I shot back.
The King shook his head.
The Fire God stepped closer. The heat intensified. My skin prickled.
“It won’t hurt you this time,” he said.
“Well, too bad, because I don’t believe you,” I replied.
