Something seemed amiss. I blinked twice, then again, slowly. The pain in the back of my eyes burned, yet it was subdued—muted. The world wasn't black. It was something else. Liquid light nudged the edges of my vision, like the first hint of day through mist. "Elara?" There came a voice through the mist. Filling. Warm. I shifted my head slightly, and the motion had the sensation of pulling my skull through sandpaper. "Elara, do you hear me?" The voice came closer—Dr. Knox.

Olivia POV Two enormous crimson eyes slowly opened in the darkness. In the eerie silence of the Void, those eyes burned like glowing embers, blazing a deep crimson against the endless black. They did not blink. They simply stared at me, cold and emotionless. The eyes shifted. Slowly. Deliberately. Only the crimson glow moved through the darkness while the rest of its body remained swallowed by the black void, as though the darkness itself refused to reveal what lay beneath. I stood rooted to the spot.

But I fought to keep my eyes open, fought to hold onto one last image before the void swallowed me whole. Through the blur of tears and pain, I saw Javier. He was still there, the gun pressed firmly against Henry's temple, his finger white-knuckled on the trigger. Their voices a distant roar I could barely hear anymore. But I saw everything clearly too clearly as if the universe was giving me one last cruel gift before taking my sight away. “Silver don’t close your eyes, please”

“Come on, we’ve got to get you cleaned up.” It felt unbelievable good to have a shower. To feel the cold water running along my back, down my butt and even over my aching legs. I almost cried. I was robbed of so many things being locked in that hellhole. Thomas didn’t know, but I wasn’t able to make out every colour, most things seemed a blur, others were fragments or black and white. It’s said that after a while many things lost function of certain organs when they weren’t in use. Most fishes in the darkness couldn’t see, maybe I was slowly going blind, having seen nothing but complete darkness for longer than I cared to remember.

A rancid odour emanated from where his bodily functions had released and soiled the ground around them.

She followed closely behind him and the two disappeared into the forest. "Did you notice?" Weaver asked and Alex nodded. "Her brother is blind. That's probably why she thought it best to talk it out." Alex said and Weaver nodded. "Don't tell the others about the male being blind. It'll provoke some of the others to try and run him off." Alex said and Weaver nodded in understanding. "I'll take a group to start setting up markers upon our new territory." Wever said and Alex nodded wondering how someone who couldn't see had survived this long. He had help from his sister but he didn't seem to rely on her. . . .

This was the moment they had been waiting for, the unveiling of a game that would push the boundaries of their trust and loyalty. I turned to face Alex, Asher, and Ethan, their expressions a mosaic of curiosity and wariness. The blindfold, a symbol of vulnerability and challenge, gleamed ominously in my grasp, its presence stirring an electric energy in the air. Their eyes locked onto mine, seeking answers, yet finding only enigmatic determination.

I was my sister now. He dragged the body to the kitchen. Water ran. A suitcase zipper opened. I kept my eyes on the wall. Counted cracks. Seven up. Three across. The water stopped. My quota of ten deaths per city was almost full. Being blind was hard - no one wished that for themselves, but I found it easier since I was an Alpha. My senses were ten times better than humans and so, I was a perfect blind man who could do almost everything. But I needed my eyes for one thing… "Hey, handsome." Her sight hadn’t adjusted in the dark yet and she could barely see anything which made her other senses work more efficiently. She closed her eyes to easily adapt to the situation. It was unusual but since she was blindfolded for so long, she could better operate when her sight was blocked. “Take this!”
