It was empty, crystal clear, with a stopper made of silver. “Her blood is dangerous right now,” Miriam said. “But it won’t always be. Give it time and her blood will be drinkable again.”

The cameras kept rolling, but even the reporters seemed to hold their breath. Every eye shifted between them. Waiting. Because there was no taking those words back.
