"Rose, can you give me a minute of your time?"
I stopped to look at him.
Tyler had lost weight. He had dark stubble on his chin and faint dark circles under his eyes. He no longer looked as spirited and confident as before. Instead, he looked like he'd been through the wringer.
I simply said, "We have nothing to talk about."
"We do," he said hurriedly. "The truth is, I've been trying to reach you since last year…"
"What for?"
"I… I just wanted…"
He hemmed and hawed, struggling to get the words out. In the end, he managed to say, "I wanted to say that I'm truly sorry."
