Sighing, I stayed between them eyes darting back and forth between the men who refuses to back down, their hands reaching into the glass one after the other.
When Axle finally slumped forward, defeated, Carlisle leaned back in his chair, his victory clear but his condition concerning.
“Sir, that’s enough,” I said, stepping forward to place a hand on his shoulder.
He looked up at me, his usual sharp gaze dulled by alcohol, and nodded. “Let’s go home.”

The car ride was quiet. I glanced at Carlisle, who sat in the passenger seat, his head resting against the window. This is my first time driving his car—and given that he is drunk, I kept my pace slow and steady.
